me and Britt stayed with her sister’s family in downtown Toronto - beautiful little apartment welcomed by a beautiful sunny day. when we arrived I got on my first Streetcar (its just a tram really jeezzz) and we started this little tradition where i was the annoying brat who would only sit next to an open window.. Friday we visited the beautiful Kelsey at her home in Whitby but thats all im gonna say about that because she’s in paris and i miss her stupendously and don’t want to think about it :( I but we went out downtown on Ossington to a bar I have no idea what the name was but the music was good so ( i don’t even know how i planned on ending that sentence sorry lols)
in fact we then ended up doing a tour of the university bit of Toronto (through no fault of my own may I add) and an irish guy with a bag of sweets found us lost and showed us a bit too (that sounds a lot worse than it was) well anyway we didn’t come home on the subway until 10am the next morning so all in all a good night out for our first night in TNO.
on an hour’s nap we did the CN Tower and Kensington Market. The CN views were spectacular (Blue Jays game just finished so the stadium was looking pretty sweet) and it was such a good people watching spot - compared to the Empire I’d give it a lower score though because we couldn’t really go outside and had to look through grubby windows and no-one knew how to take good photos on an iPhone so me and britt ended up with crappy shots of ourselves haha, little fuckers.. Kensington Market was an albeit hungover treat of an afternoon - beautiful sunshine and these tiny little shops with all sorts of goodies.. at the risk of sounding ultra edge-nation it reminded me of a music festival but where the stalls were in shops as well as outside. shweet though and picked myself up some “Armani” sunglasses for 5 bucks, can’t go wrong really can you? (yeah I already lost them)we meant to go out that night but instead we came home and napped at 9pm and woke up at 2am goddamnit but went straight back to sleep so whatever haha. sunday we went to Toronto Zoo with Arya and Rhianna and their family which was such a good day out, boiling hot though and we walked for five hours (hey sunburn) but i got my first ever flip flop tan lines (I care about the big things) and saw white lions and polar bears and turtles mating and touched sting rays which was sooooo bloody cool :)that night we actually did make it out (after britt napped lols) we went to Peter Street and to a bar called Wet Bar where we got in for half price because I said I was from England and it was my last night in Canada before going home (how many times I’ve used this one this year i don’t know)  we partied with the Finnish national volleyball team which a laugh.. made it home a few miles on the streetcar with only 60c and shared some guy’s ben and jerry’s chocolate ice cream on the journey, mega proud of that one… not so chuffed when we had to wake up round 7am to go meet britts mum to go to Cutler, ouuuuuchhhhhhhh.toronto was incredible thoguh - reminded me a lot of NYC but only for ten minutes where I got off the streetcar in the midst of downtown where all the high risers are. I don’t really know why people compare it to NYC but maybe I missed out on a part of  NYC that these people had in mind.. anyway I thought Toronto was a bit more bohemian, a lot more laid back.. not anywhere near as humid as people said either. it was a beautiful city and I would go back and spend so many more days there any time if I could.love from a sunny but windy Connecticut x ps. hopefully if i remember there’ll be Cutler post tomorrow

I’m currently staying at my uncle’s apartment in Upper East NYC, the bottom two photos are the views from the dining room windows and the top is the view of the central park reservoir when I ran round it yesterday morning… ‘Can’t complain’ feels like a teeny bit of an understatement.. Over next couple of days if I have time before I leave for Thailand I will be doing a blog post per place I have visited in the last two weeks… Expect a Toronto, Cutler, Connecticut, NYC, Ottawa, and England post :) chat soon. Love from a hot and sunny NYC x

so I guess its nearly the end of my year in canada..
lease ends here April 31st (haha yes thats actually what is says in our contract) and then my plans are kind of cloudy. They are possibly going to involve a road trip to Toronto, Whitby, Niagara Falls and Belleville, then a few weeks in NYC, back to Ottawa then home… then maybe Thailand :) the possibilities are as endless as my bank account (oh no) so who knows.
I finished classes technically the Thursday before last, and had my final photography crit yesterday. the photo is above is the finished product- the project is called ‘The Moment of  Anticipation’ and its based on Arnaud Maggs’ work. Each print is 11 by 16 inches so it was a pretty spectacular effect when they were all lined up on the wall in the corridor yesterday. the set up basically involved a day of throwing cups of water at people.
A few little back stories behind the pictures…
Middle row second from the right is Kelsey - she has the most water in her face and looks like she is about to say ‘fuck you’ (she is) because her boyfriend (bottom left) picked two cups  up instead of the designated one and threw before she had the chance to dodge.
Top row left is my beautiful mum looking very calm and composed because my friend (bottom row middle pic, looks like she’s about to sneeze) had met my mum all of 20 minutes before I asked her to chuck water at her, and was so scared to get my mum wet that she kept throwing it above or completely the wrong way…
Middle row middle pic is my flatmate (bottom right)’s soaked boyfriend - she was enjoying the anger management aspect of the shoot hence the larger amount of water… I see a bf-gf pattern forming…..
the parents visited Canada last week and we had a great time - went to Montreal for the weekend (ate in the best all you can eat japanese restaurant, drank in a gorg little micro brewery, ate lots of bagels, walked around Old Montreal - which is kind of very similar to France actually - and around Mont Royal and went to the top of the hill to look at the city, pretty). We also went to Gatineaux and went to Lake Meech in the park which was beaut and the weather was lovely. There was this little house in the middle of the lake which you could only have got to in a boat - so bleak but so cool… imagine being able to dive out of your bedroom window into a lake in 40 degree temps in the summer - amazing. I miss them now, but it was worth it to see them for a week.
speaking of which, I’ll be uploading an embarrassing soppy bye Canada post soon I’m sure. look out for it.love from a sunny but chilly Canada. x

my favourite in a photo series I’m doing right now I like to call ‘Fuck, that’s wet’ where britt and her friend felicia here obligingly sat outside in below zero ottawa weather while they took turns in throwing huge pots of (warm) water over each other.
It will end up being a stereo shot (two images fuse with a special viewer to make them 3d) hopefully - due for monday 8:30am
speaking of fucking monday, its the busiest day of my entire life so far. I have four hours of photo at 8:30am-12:30pm (stereo assignment is due, which I haven’t done yet), then I have animals and the law, for which I am presenting the seminar with another girl. canadians really do love presenting - I have to present for all three of my classes this year.I happened to forget to sign up for a seminar for animals and the law which left me with ‘Odds and Sods’ a collection of stories about animal-human sexual relations, and animals on trial throughout history…. actually its pretty interesting haha
Then I have Regulation of Internet Communications where I will be presenting about SOPA for two hours - to hide the fact that I am clearly teaching a class of people who know a fuck load more than I do, I will possibly be dressing up as a pirate, and my prezi is themed around lego pirates…. not sure I quite get the idea of these presentations but then Im going to go get very drunk in the local pub so y’know all’s well that end’s well

Week in the life of a Canadian Law student…

Wednesday: animal/human sexual relations,

Yesterday: erotic novels and articles about masturbation,

Today: donkeys acquitted for bestiality because of evidence of ‘good character’ and pigs sentenced to death for eating kids, but don’t worry their piglets were acquitted cause they weren’t part of the crime.

what will tomorrow of a week in the life of a canadian law student bring?

st paddy’s day is absolutely massive over here, the canadians really do go all out. it was probably my favourite day since I’ve been here, I had the best time of my life; was drunk from 11:30am->1am, went to a lawn party, a frat kegger and a grad party, wandered around the streets drunk and blissful and was the happiest I’ve been in a long time :)cue a gorgeous massive cheese and egg bagel, home fries and fruit at nostalgica (post 1HOUR wait) this morning with brittany.
cue, 21 degrees boiling sun all week, cue sunburn
cue happy me :)

look at this masterpiece of a canadian breakfast - made all by me :)
speaking of such - I was at this buffet in the Uni centre yesterday with Brittany and her friend, and I was eating my pancakes with pineapple, and they could not even compute how weird this apparently was. How can they justify being so weirded out, these canadians the ones who traditionally smother their bacon and eggs with maple syrup? and apparently its so not weird to have pancakes with blueberries or banana, but pineapple?!?! oh my GOD no, godforsaken spawn of the devil shit over here…. so i went for the canadian norm this time.
portraits stuff over - doing stereo shots in photo now and will upload a few over the next couple of weeks if my negatives come out any good. Got a load of essays and presentations to be getting on with but I’ve been down with the flu and a chest infection these last few days so been exiled to my room with a cup of honey and lemon and a shit load of random movies - no complaints.. still feel crappy though :(
much love from a surprisingly warm and sunny Canada x

Portrait No.5 - Karen
This is one of the first prints I ever did, and it’s probably one of my favourite. I think Karen is absolutely beautiful and she makes a great model.
So I watched the last episode of Dexter the other day (yep, 6 series have been watched since I arrived in Canada and it was my british housemate who suggested it) I couldn’t sleep for hours! I felt reallllly sick and weird, I needed closure.. It was just strange…
Then I come to bed and when I can’t sleep I think of something to watch and I choose the last episode of Hustle, which is almost equally as unforgiving - so I turn that off and watch gossip girl instead. Which made me think of how much I’m looking forward to going back to New York in the summer.
:) canada is snowy and mushy and gross today x but on the plus side, going to see some DJ called Steve Aoki tonight

Portrait No.4 - Ginette
people have said to me that this portrait tells a million stories and that it’s mysterious and this and that… I guess that’s the whole aim of my ‘reflections’ theme, to create a sort of ‘self-reflection’ - but not an obvious one. Kind of so you look at the photo and you know it tells you something about this person, but you aren’t told what that something is. you want to know though…..
Ginette makes fantastic food - i don’t think I’ve ever come away from her cooking without feeling completely satisfied. She makes this incredible spicy peanut butter sauce for spaghetti which, if the thought of spaghetti after 10 days of it for lunch and dinner didn’t make me feel sick, I would probably kill to eat right now.
Starting to freak out about the 15 page essay I have to write for next Wednesday about SOPA - if anyone has any interesting information, message me! :)
